Democrats Attempt to Ignore the Law - Ted Kennedy Bending the Rules Postmortem

Monday, August 31, 2009
According to this article, lawmakers are thinking Vicki Kennedy would be a good choice to fill Ted Kennedy's seat in the interim period before a special election is held to elect a permanent senator. One problem with this is that she doesn't want to do it. Not only does she not want to do it, but she is not qualified to do it. She has no experience beyond being married to Senator Kennedy.

The second problem with this proposal is that the law does not allow it. This issue is brushed over in the article with a mention that Ted Kennedy was trying to change the law before he died. It conveniently neglects to mention the history of the bill. As I have explained before, the law which didn't allow an interim appointment was created by Ted Kennedy. He changed the Massachusetts law, which previously allowed the governor to appoint an interim senator, in anticipation of John Kerry winning the presidential election. The purpose behind the law change was to prevent then governor, Mitt Romney, from being able to make a Republican appointment.

Ted Kennedy's politically motivated law came back to bite the democratic party in the ass. The truth is that universal healthcare is a very tough sell. They need all the votes they can get. Once again, for purely political reasons, the democrats want to change the law to benefit their party. It reeks of corruption.

The Definition of a Right

Sunday, August 30, 2009
I am getting sick of people saying that healthcare is a right. It's not. This is America, you get what you pay for here. I know that notion is ever shrinking due to the expansion of government and the expansion of funds coming out of the taxpayer pocket to pay for those who choose to work less or go to school less than others. When people discuss rights, I must assume that they refer to the Bill of Rights. Perhaps people need to read these so they can see what is and is not a right. Note that only the first 10 are considered the Bill of Rights, the rest are further Consitutional Amendments. I'll include them all so that no one believes that I have left anything out on purpose. Here's a brief outline:
  1. religion/speech/press/assembly
  2. bear arms
  3. protection from quartering of troops
  4. unreasonable search and seizure
  5. due process/double jeopardy/self-incrimination/eminent domain
  6. confront accuser/speedy trial/public trial/right to counsel
  7. trial by jury
  8. excessive bail/cruel or unusual punishment
  9. other rights not listed
  10. power of the states
  11. sovereign immunity
  12. election proceedures
  13. abolition of slavery
  14. applies bill of rights to states, denies public office to rebels
  15. suffrage by race
  16. allows federal income tax
  17. direct election to US Senate
  18. prohibition of alcohol
  19. womens sufferage
  20. lame duck (congressional term commencement)
  21. repeal of 18th amendment
  22. limits presidential terms to 2
  23. representation of Washington D.C. in electoral college
  24. prohibition of restriction of voting rights due to non payment of poll taxes
  25. presidential succession
  26. voting age
  27. variance of congressional compensation
There they are, in all their glory, the rights given to us as citizens of the United States. Healthcare isn't on there. I'm sure the liberals will try to shove it into the 9th amendment just like they did abortion. It clearly wasn't intended to be a right, it doesn't even fit in with the rest of the categories. If the founding fathers wanted to ensure our rights to health don't you think they would first give us the right to food and safety? They didn't, they expected us to provide these things for ourselves, as adults, in a capitalist country. Most of the rights are actually things that the government cannot do, such as prohibit the free practice of religion, the right to assemble, etc... as opposed to the things that the government must do. The way the country was originally (and correctly) structured most of the regulatory functions were in the hands of the states, not the federal government.

At Least Fidel Castro Approves

Saturday, August 29, 2009

Apparently Fidel Castro likes President Obama. According to this article the former leader of communist Cuba believes that Obama has inherited all his problems and that the Right is opposed to him because the Right is is racist. This is a blatent lie. To state that the Right disagrees with the President Obama simply because of his race is insulting to the entire Republican party. One of the many reasons that the Right opposes many of Obama's policies is because he is trying to change our country into a socialist country. Socialist countries become communist countries and that is what Fidel Castro likes about Obama.

This idea that the right wing is one giant mass full of hate for minorities is just not true. The right wing is composed of many, many people, each with their own mind. The President is clearly a rookie, he has no idea what he's doing and he won't listen to reason. It's horrifying how fast he is destroying the country. There are plenty of reasons to dislike Obama's policies, his race has nothing to do with it. I resent that any complaint against Obama results in an insinuation that the person complaining is racist, regardless of the persuasiveness of the argument. He's no victim.

Obama wants to Protect Us by Taking Our Internet Away

Friday, August 28, 2009

As part of the ever growing government plan to control every aspect of our lives there is a bill to for Obama to take over and disconnect the Internet in the case of an emergency, including private networks. I consider the internet to be closely tied to the dissemination of information and the freedom of speech. This article describes the nearly limitless bill. The countries which have the most heavily censored internet access include: Burma, Cuba, Egypt, Iran, Maldives, North Korea, Peoples Republic of China, Syria, Tunesia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam. I never thought the United States would land on this list. We are supposed to be the Land of the Free. Obama clearly feels that he knows best on every issue. He wants to be a car salesman, a health insurance provider, and now he wants to control the internet. When will it stop?

Following Pelosi's Lead

Thursday, August 27, 2009
It looks like Nancy Pelosi isn't the only one willing to use America's sympathies for a dead senator. The late Ted Kennedy is now being used as the emotional push for healthcare by the democratic party. Do it for Ted! Ridiculous. The democrats have been facing huge opposition on their healthcare plan, rational minded people simply don't want it. Democrats seem to have finally gotten that they can't win in the rational realm, so they are going for emotion. While people are surrounded by warm and fuzzies for not just Ted Kennedy, but the Kennedy dynasty the democrats are pouncing, trying to get people to agree out of emotion...a dying man's last wish. This is lower than low, and very transparent.

A Glimpse into our Healthcare Future?

In the U.K. they have government run healthcare. This is what we are striving for?

Nancy Pelosi is an Opportunist Shrew

Today, Ted Kennedy died. Nancy Pelosi released a statement that reads, in part "Ted Kennedy's dream of quality health care for all will be made real this year because of his leadership and his inspiration." Wow, not even for one minute could she act like a human being and simply commemerate the man. She absolutely had to jump on the opportunity to play on people's sympathies and push a political point. She could have at least waited until the body was cold. Disgusting woman.

Ted Kennedy has Died

All politics aside, my condolences to the entire Kennedy clan.

The Town Hall Debates are Working

Tuesday, August 25, 2009
Town Halls have been packed lately with people debating the Healthcare Bill, or, as the liberals like to say disruptively protesting at Town Halls. I, for one, see nothing wrong with letting your representative know your feelings on an issue. How can they possibly represent a group of people if they never find out where said people stand? The left are practically the inventors of protest, it seems strange that the right is held to a different standard.

I came across this acticle today which raised my optimism to new heights. Sometimes I feel like I am rooting for the underdog just by being a republican in a nation ruled by the loons on the left. This particular piece is particularly heartening because the comments contained in it come from a Democratic Senator. Senator Russ Feingold of Wisconsin has been supportive of the healthcare plan, extremely supportive, like to the left of Obama supportive. That's why this quote is so significant, "Nobody is going to bring a bill before Christmas, and maybe not even then, if this ever happens," Feingold said. "The divisions are so deep. I never seen anything like that."

If this ever happens. I love the possibility that this will never, ever, not in a million years, happen.

A Glimmer of Hope - Obama's Birth Certificate

Monday, August 24, 2009
Trent Franks of Arizona may be the first member of Congress to bring a lawsuit compelling President Obama to produce his long form Birth Certificate. See the condescending, liberally biased article here. The main problem with these lawsuits, so far, is standing. Being a taxpayer and voter has been deemed by the courts to not be enough to create standing. Would a Congressman have standing? I think so. Standing is determined by whether a plaintiff is or imminently will be harmed. I would argue that we are all being harmed by Obama being in office, but a Member of Congress would likely been seen as having a significant connection to the issue in question, and thus more likely to have standing then an ordinary citizen.

I don't know what is on Obama's birth certificate. The only reason I am becoming in the least bit suspicious is because Obama seems to be hellbent on keeping it from the public, oh and the fact that his grandmother claimed she was present at his birth, in Kenya. He does seem to be rather secretive, despite his campaign promises to have a transparent white house. We have no long form birth certificate, no school records, nothing really. It's amazing how quickly he's destroying the country, it's like watching a train wreck, from the train.

Socialism

Saturday, August 22, 2009
Our country has been slipping into socialism for some time now. The government is getting larger and larger and there is more and more cost share involved. This is not the America that the constitution spelled out. I believe that President Obama is trying to push America all the way into socialism and quickly. I would like to prevent that goal from happening. The first step to doing that is to make this healthcare bill go away. Despite what the left is saying, the townhall meetings are working. People are listening.
